Social Media Marketing

Data-Informed Social Media Reporting

I report in plain English on what actually worked and what I'd do next. Budget and effort then move towards whatever is bringing in customers, and likes and follower counts stay as supporting detail.

What worked, and what's next

Example

Budget split evenly, to see what works.

  • Video ads on Instagram

    Working well

    Enquiries
    Budget

This brought in most of the enquiries, so it gets more of the budget next month.

  • Search ads

    Steady

    Enquiries
    Budget

A steady flow of enquiries from people ready to buy, so it stays about where it is.

  • Image ads on Facebook

    Not working

    Enquiries
    Budget

Plenty of likes and very few enquiries, so I'm cutting it back to test a new approach.

What you can expect from social media reporting

Measures tied to your goals

We agree the numbers that matter to your business before the campaign starts, such as enquiries, sales or cost per lead.

Plain-English summaries

A short written summary of what happened and why it matters, with each campaign explained in a sentence or two.

Tracking that's been checked

A check that your pixels, tags and goals are recording properly before any number goes in a report.

Clear recommendations

What to stop, what to carry on with and what to try next, with budget and effort moved towards what's working.

One view across platforms

Results from each platform in one report, using the same measures where possible, with a note wherever platforms count things differently.

Honesty about the gaps

Platforms can each claim credit for the same sale, and privacy settings hide some activity. I'll tell you how confident I am in each finding.

How social media reporting works

  1. Step 1

    Agree what counts

We settle what success looks like for your business and which numbers will show it.

  2. Step 2

    Check the tracking

I go through your ad accounts, analytics and conversion tracking, and fix or flag anything that's recording incorrectly.

  3. Step 3

    Report

At an interval we've agreed, you get a short report with the results for each campaign and a plain-English explanation of what they mean.

  4. Step 4

    Act on it

We agree what to change, then I move budget and effort towards what's working and check in the next report whether the change helped.

Common questions

Numbers that look good but say little about your business, such as likes, follower counts or impressions on their own. They can still be useful early signals, so I include them when they explain something and keep the focus on enquiries, sales and other results you can act on.
